Hi there! 👋 I’m Sandra.
I’m a resident physician and public health consultant based in Vancouver, on the unceded traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples.
I see medicine and public health as important tools for challenging inequity and upholding human rights. In my ongoing research and practice, I take a special interest in the social, environmental, and structural determinants of health. I am committed to fostering open and productive public dialogue, and seek to engage audiences on these important topics through writing and public speaking.
I have worked for the humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in a number of contexts. In Canada, I have collaborated with public health institutions including the British Columbia Centre on Substance Use, the Community-Based Research Centre, and WISH Vancouver. I am a co-host and producer of the podcast Just Medicine.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Environment from McGill University, a Master’s degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of British Columbia.
You can get in touch with me through the contact page, on LinkedIn, or on Bluesky.
